Preparing the Way of the Lord!
Luke 7:27b “Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, Who will prepare Your way before You.”
For approximately four thousand years the people of Israel had been waiting for and looking for the Messiah to come. They believed the Word of God who had promised His appearing. Then the word of God came to Zacharia and Elizabeth that they were going to have a son. His name was to be called John. He would be filled with the Holy Spirit from His mother’s womb and he would be the “forerunner” of the Christ, the Messiah. John grew up in the wilderness of Judea. He waited for the word from God as to when, where and what his mission and ministry would be.
At the age of approximately thirty years old God called John to go to the people of Israel and preach. John was God’s messenger that was sent before the face of Jesus, the Christ who would prepare the way before Him. God sent John with a particular message. John, the Baptist, as later became called, came forth preaching, “Repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand.” John came calling the people of Israel to a place of sincere repentance and faith, repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Messiah who was to come.
As John came preaching multitudes of the people of Israel listened to his message and responded by repentance and baptism. Their repentance was for breaking God’s law and covenant and their faith was in the promise of God’s coming Messiah.
Have you and I prepared our hearts for the second coming of God’s Messiah, Jesus Christ? Have we repented of our sin and received Jesus Christ as our own Lord and Savior? If we desire and expect Christ to give us His promise, then we must believe, we must repent and receive Him as our Savior. We can prepare the way of our Lord’s second coming as John did His first. We can go and tell others that He is the Lord and Christ. We can invite them to come to repentance and faith in Him now. Amen!
