“God’s Great Commission to His Church?”

Matthew 28:18-20
And Jesus came and spoke to them saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Our Lord Jesus was about to ascend back to the Father in heaven to take His place at the right hand of His Father. He had done all that was necessary to establish His “church” and save those who were lost. Now He gives His last commandment or commission to His disciples and His Church.

Our Lord’s command is for us to “GO”. He said, “Go and make disciples of all the nations.” We are commanded to take action as believers in Christ. Our action is to “GO and make disciples.” One translation of this text reads, “As you go make disciples.” How do we make disciples? First, we must lead the lost to the Lord to be saved. Secondly, we must lead them to follow Christ in baptism. Thirdly, we must make disciples of them by leading them to grow through the word of God and His teachings. Jesus said, “teaching them to observe (keep and do) all things that I have commanded you.”

To strengthen every believer that Christ commanded He also gave a promise. He said, “Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” He is with us now! Jesus said, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8) We have His presence and power with us. Now, let us GO daily and be witnesses for Him. Amen!
